hey neighbor, i'm sami
I make art because it is fun, it reminds me I am alive, and it helps me trust we are capable of infinite change and possibility. I think our job on earth is to make it lovlier, safer, better for all life, and I hope to do that with my art practice and the ways I am in relationship with all things. I read in an essay by James Baldwin the other day that "A society must assume that it is stable, but the artist must know, and he must let us know, that there is nothing stable under heaven" and I am paraphrasing, but he goes on to say that grappling with the miracles, horrors, and constant change of being alive by channeling all that aliveness into art is pure freedom. Thanks, James Baldwin!
